University Archives oral history collection 1904-2006 1972 - 1995

Materials in this collection include audio cassette tapes, audio reel tapes, transcripts, correspondence, scrapbooks, photographs, news clippings, and articles. The materials range in date from 1904-2006. Some recordings may not be oral histories per se (speeches and the like), but are being maintained in this collection at this time. A portion of the collection pertains to subjects other than the University including interviews on school integration, housing, performing arts, Foggy Bottom history. A significant portion of the recordings related to the Rosemary Primary school in Montgomery County, Maryland.There are transcripts for a small portion of the interviews. The most significant of these are the oral history transcripts from interviews with George Washington University Historian Elmer Kayser. Kayser's transcripts include recollections from the period 1910-70 of Georgetown and Washington, D.C., the GW economic crisis of 1910, fraternities and sororities, campus development, professors, etc. They range in date from 1975-77. The portion of the collection that relates to the Himmelfarb Health Sciences Library contains photographs and papers of Dr. Joseph Kreiselman, Medical Center Oral History Project tapes and transcripts, Dr. Louis Shapiro and Dr. Mark Shapiro scrapbooks, Dr. Howard Dane log books of baby deliveries, and photographs of nursing school graduates. This material covers the dates 1904-88.
